Using a dishwasher is much more efficient and much less time-consuming than washing dishes by hand, but not everything is dishwasher-friendly.

This Sunday is National Dishwasher Day. Can you guess how old dishwashers are? They are actually a lot older than you think. The first dishwasher was patented 175 years ago, in 1850. It was a hand-crank thing, no motor. Modern dishwashers weren't common until the 1970s. It's hard to argue that the dishwasher isn't one of the greatest inventions of all time. I mean, think about it: Who actually wants to spend a lot of time scrubbing, washing, and drying off a sink full of dishes? The dishwasher can do it all for you, and in less time while using much less water.

Now, I don't know about how it is at your house, but at mine, I am the designated dishwasher. I know that the dishwasher isn't going to scrub every item individually to get it clean. So, I'll make sure to check the dishes are not caked with food and such before putting them in there. Otherwise, I'm just going to have to clean them again. I also make sure to strategically place the dishes in the dishwasher so that there is no wasted space. My wife, on the other hand...well, let's just say that it's a lot like this:

Before You Load Your Dishwasher...

While the dishwasher does save time and water, it's common knowledge (or it should be) that you can't put everything in there. Even though it's 2025 and we have had a lot of modern advances in science, we still haven't invented a dishwasher that is safe for all kinds of dishes. So, what items should you never put in the dishwasher? Well, a few of them might surprise you.

Again, this might be common sense to many, but there are still so many people who toss everything in the dishwasher. In fact, there are even more items that shouldn't go in the dishwasher for various reasons. You can learn more about that by clicking here. So, share this with someone who tosses everything in the sink into the dishwasher and just say, "You're welcome!"

7 Invasive Insects in Indiana You Should Kill Immediately If You See Them

In an effort to inform the public on the types of invasive species that are known to be found in their state, the USDA offers a "Pest Tracker" on their website, where you simply click the name of your state from the drop-down menu provided to see pictures of the different insects and weeds, along with descriptions of the type of plant life they target and the damage they can do if they're not dealt with.

Indiana Goodwill Stores Will Not Accept These 24 Items

So much of what we accumulate, we don't really use. Some of the stuff that is cluttering up our closets, basements, spare bedrooms, and garages is in good condition and can easily be used by someone else.

Other items that have simply worn out or broken need to be cleaned out or replaced, too. But, Goodwill is not the place for those items.

Here is what Goodwill says about items that they can't and won't take.
