Kentucky Home Dubbed “Weirdest House” in the State
You won't find a house like this anywhere but Kentucky. It takes "empty nesting" to a whole other level!
We all have seen homes on television that make us cringe. Heck, there are probably some that you have seen just driving around that make you wonder how people live there. Whether it be strange architecture, poor painting, or just something that is severely outdated, there are quite a few scattered throughout the United States. The website, Cheapism, recently compiled a list of the strangest homes in every state. Some of these homes are quite...unique, to say the least. However, one of the homes featured on this list has folks in Kentucky stopping to take photos and admiring it's weirdness.
The Weirdest Home in Kentucky is...
If you find yourself driving around in Hazard, Kentucky, you might spot one home that is unlike any you have ever seen before. Those in the area call it the Mother Goose House. Why, because the home itself is shaped like a goose!
Here's what Cheapism had to say:
Here’s a house that takes the idea of nesting to an extreme level. Built starting in 1935, this egg-shaped eastern Kentucky dwelling is topped by a green-shingled goose that even has headlights for eyes (undoubtedly an unsettling sight at night). In 2021, the goose's head fell off. Subsequently, the community rallied together and the head was replaced. In years past, it has been a market, a diner, a gas station, and an inn. Today, it is a private residence.
The Mother Goose House has been featured on Oprah, Home and Garden Television's Extreme Homes, and in The New York Times. Locals in Perry County consider the Mother Goose House a beloved landmark. Have you ever seen or even been inside the weirdest home in Kentucky?
