If you smell something deep-fried in Evansville today, there's a pretty good chance it's coming from Franklin Street.

The 105th West Side Nut Club Fall Festival officially kicked off yesterday, October 5, beginning another week of food, rides, entertainment, and one of Evansville's biggest annual traditions.

For generations of Tri-State families, Fall Festival week has been one of those unofficial markers on the calendar that says fall is really here.

Franklin Street Is Ready for Fall Festival Week

Of course, the food gets a lot of the attention, and rightfully so. For six days, Franklin Street becomes the place to find everything from traditional festival favorites to the wonderfully questionable creations you probably wouldn't consider eating anywhere else.

But the Fall Festival has always been about more than what's on the menu.

It's the bustling crowd, carnival rides lighting up the street after dark, live entertainment, familiar faces, and the annual debate over which food booth deserves the first taste.

And behind it all is the West Side Nut Club and the local nonprofit organizations that use the festival as one of their biggest fundraising opportunities of the year.
