Coyote Spotted in Evansville Neighborhoods, Here’s What to Do if You See It

Evansville residents are being asked to keep an eye on their surroundings, and especially their smaller four-legged family members, following multiple reports of a coyote roaming through a residential area.

Evansville Animal Care and Control shared information from Nuisance Wildlife Control after multiple sightings were reported around the Boeke Road and Pollack Avenue area of Evansville.

Because coyotes can cover considerable ground, officials say the animal could also turn up in surrounding neighborhoods.

Coyote Does Not Appear Sick or Injured

There's some reassuring news for anyone who has spotted the animal.

According to Nuisance Wildlife Control, the coyote does not currently appear to be sick or injured.

Its presence in a populated residential area has understandably raised concerns; however, the company says it has been in contact with city officials about the reports.

They plan to continue investigating and monitoring sightings to determine what action, if any, is necessary. That could eventually include an effort to safely capture and relocate the coyote away from populated areas if officials determine it is warranted.

What Should You Do if You See the Coyote?

For now, residents are being asked to keep their distance and never approach or attempt to feed the animal.

If you live in or around the area, you'll also want to supervise small pets whenever they're outside.

Most importantly, sightings can help those monitoring the coyote determine where it is traveling.
