The folks at Resume.io selected 3,000 employees from across the country to participate in a carefully tailored survey to determine where the happiest employees in America live and work.

What Makes or Breaks a Workers Happiness?

There are a number of factors that can make or break an employees happiness. For example, the ability to work from home either on a full-time or hybrid basis, contributes greatly to employee satisfaction, according to the study.

Do American Workers Prefer to Work Remotely or In-Office?

Of those surveyed, 36% revealed that working remotely "greatly improves" their satisfaction with their job. Additionally, 35% prefer the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule with a mix of remote and in-office.

Hybrid work setups continue to be a top preference, indicating that employees value having the option to come into the office when needed, while also enjoying the flexibility of working remotely.

What Stresses Out American Workers?

When it comes to stress, 34% of the people studied expressed that high expectations and heavy workloads contribute the most to their stress levels. As for work-life-balance, 19% say it's a struggle.

Where Are The Happiest Cities to Work in the US?

So where are the happiest workers in America? Resume.io has compiled a list of the Top 100 Cities where employees are most satisfied with their work. While places like Honolulu, Hawaii, Santa Barbara, California, and Austin, Texas sit in the top three spots, Tennessee has several cities on the list.

Some of the top cities for workplace happiness, like Honolulu, Austin, and San Francisco, are known for offering robust career opportunities and an inclusive, supportive work culture. These cities showcase the value of combining professional growth with quality of life factors, creating a model for work satisfaction.

Tennessee Cities Where Workers are Happiest

Tennessee is home to five cities among the Top 100 proving that the Volunteer State is a wonderful place to work for many people.

Nashville-Davidson tops the list of Tennessee cities, taking the number 30 spot overall on Resume.io's list. A little further down, we find Knoxville in the number 37 position, and Chattanooga is number 46. Murfreesboro holds the number 54 spot, and Memphis following up at number 73 out of the Top 100 cities.

Happiness Is Always Subjective - Even in Tennessee

It is worth noting, that in another recent study, when looking at things like wages, worker protections, and rights to organize, Tennessee actually ranked in the bottom ten states. Perhaps what makes somewhere a good or bad place to work is purely in the eyes of the beholder.
