I am a Kentucky gal through and through. I LOVE learning about our state history and what makes the Commonwealth special. We have so many amazing stories that are almost too cool to be true.

The Western Gate of the KY Bourbon Trail

Even right here in Owensboro, we are world-famous for our Bluegrass music, our Bar-B-Que, AND our bourbon. While Central Kentucky and the Bardstown area are most known for the Bourbon Trail, there is an official stop here on the Ohio River. Green River Distillery is the "Western Gate" of the trail.

The Whiskey Without Regrets

It is the 10th-oldest distillery in the state, which means the folks behind "The Whiskey Without Regrets" really know their stuff. Have you ever heard the saying, "If it ain't Kentucky, it ain't bourbon?" It can be called whiskey, but as far as Kentuckians are concerned, the term "bourbon" is reserved only for bottles that can name their favorite Keith Whitley song.

Tour Green River Distillery

Founded in 1885, Green River Distillery's rich history is a highlight of taking a tour of the facility. You get to see how the bourbon is made, learn all about how the clever slogan came to be, how they've survived multiple fires, prohibition, and why it was once literally as good as gold.

The Most Expensive Spirit or Whiskey Ever Sold

At the end of your tour, you get to enjoy samples of brown water at the tasting lounge, also known as the 20 Barrel Saloon. In honor of the time, twenty barrels of bourbon were traded for interest in an actual Colorado gold mine. That's how popular it was back in 1917, and it is still going strong. I wonder if it is still considered "the most expensive spirit or whiskey ever sold."
