More Movies Are Being Shot in Kentucky, and Here’s Now the Next Location Could Be Your Own Property
Last spring, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear welcomed the arrival of the West Kentucky Film Commission during a big event at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts in Madisonville. During the presentation, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of community leaders in Madisonville/Hopkins County, Oak Grove, Owensboro, Bowling Green, Paducah, Henderson, Franklin, and Central City, as well as the Kentucky Entertainment Incentive (KEI). This tax credit makes filmmaking in the Commonwealth more affordable.
West Kentucky Film Commission
The commission recently trumpeted the premiere of Bachelor Santa at Owensboro's RiverPark Center and is now on a mission to seek out other shooting locations across western Kentucky. For a long time, I've championed the picturesque small towns in Kentucky as perfect scenic backdrops for making movies.
In 2022, Hollywood set up shop in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, to shoot the crime thriller Red Right Hand starring Orlando Bloom and Andie MacDowell. Later that year, Ethan Hawke arrived in Shelbyville to scout locations for his Flannery O'Connor biopic Wildcat.
Kentucky Filming Location Suggestions
I could go on and on. Recently, I paid a visit to the downtown areas or both Dawson Springs and Princeton, western Kentucky towns that offer that trademark Bluegrass charm that would fit perfectly in someone's movie.
But while the West Kentucky Film Commission would be all over that, their request is more specific. On the commission's Facebook page, you'll find a form to fill out if you'd like to volunteer your home or property as a shooting location.
Who knows? One day, someone might reach out to you and tell you they think they saw your house in a movie. One day, they just might be right.
