Earlier this week, Mary-Katherine and I had the chance to chat with Vicki about her legendary career. We started our conversation with an admission. We're both HUGE fans of Vicki and couldn't believe we were getting the chance to chat with her.

I grew up in the 70s and early 80s. My first introduction to Vicki Lawrence was on the  The Carol Burnett Show, which still makes me (and Vicki) laugh after all these years.

Mary-Katherine fell in love with Vicki on her hit show, Mama's Family.

It's a show she started watching when she was a kid.

In addition to touring the country with her new stage show, Vicki is still tackling TV projects. In fact, she and Carol Burnett recently reunited for appearances on Palm Royale.

Since we had the perfect opportunity, we asked Vicki about something we thought was possibly a Hollywood urban myth. Mary-Katherine heard that there was a version of "The Mama's Family Theme" that had lyrics and that Vicki was the person who wrote them. Guess what? That's not a myth. It happened!

Of course, we also had to seize the day and ask Vicki about her iconic rendition of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia." We agree that her version- the original- is the G.O.A.T.

The song was written by Vicki's former husband and her memories of how the recording came to be are hilarious.

That song wasn't the end of Vicki's recording career. She was even talked into recording a disco album. We thought that may have been urban legend too. Turns out, it happened.

Tickets to see Vicki Lawrence are available at RiverParkCenter.org.
